What are the benefits of yoga?
People practice yoga for a variety of reasons: stress reduction, physical fitness, injury recovery, community, realization and internal self-awareness. Adopting a continued yoga practice increases one’s energy, awakens the body’s systems, flushes toxins and impurities from the body, and relaxes the tension of the body.
Do I have to be flexible?
No! The yoga asanas help you to develop flexibility and balance. Areas of the body that are tight become more flexible, and the weak areas will become stronger with continued practice.
Is yoga a religion?
This is a common misconception. While the practice and study of yoga is Eastern in origin, its use and acceptance is worldwide. The introspective process that is experienced through the asanas(postures), and stillness of the mind, strengthen each individual’s internal-awareness to the present moment. Deepening one’s internal-awareness helps to reveal our true nature of love, kindness, strength , and contentment through clear presence of mind.
How do I find the right class for me?
There are as many different styles as there are yoga teacher training classes. Some are vigorous, while others are more relaxing. Your experience level is the key to finding the right class for you. If you are experienced or have no experience at all, classic hatha yoga will provide each practitioner with their level of their ability.
How often should I go to a yoga class?
Many people benefit with a class once or twice a week. As with any body-related practice, it is the consistency over time that will generate lasting positive changes. Your schedule and personal commitment will be the designating factors. Practicing a minimum of once a week is good. Practicing twice a week will allow the muscles to remember, and flexibility continues. Practicing three or more times a week is heaven on earth.
